Finding the perfect dress
5/27/2008 8:55:46 PM
Finding the perfect wedding dress can be an amazing experience.    It doesn't matter if you have been dreaming of your wedding day since you were five or have never thought about it before you were engaged; the second you slip on 'the' dress its magical.  Its the first time reality hits and you not only feel but look like a bride.  Although this moment is indescribable the journey to the finding the perfect dress can be pressure filled, stressful, and tiring.  As a result of this we have compiled a list of ideas to ponder before you go out shopping and some advice to consider before booking your first bridal salon appointment!

For your body type...It's one thing to find the perfect dress in a magazine, modeled by a size '0' and accompanied by a world-class hair and makeup team- its quite another when you get to the bridal boutique, accompanied by your friends and family and only a vague idea of what will compliment your features and figure on your wedding.  At Flawless Events, we say embrace your body type, know what works best for you, and put your best foot forward.

The best shape for any bride-petite, tall, plus size, etc- is the classic A-line dress.  A simple A-line draws attention to your waist, the smallest part of your figure, and flows elegantly outward from there, hiding any 'flaws' you might be concerned about on your torso, hips, or thighs.  There are many variations of the A-line shape: a full A-line avoids excess fabric while still distinguishing

those 'problem areas;" a modified A-line is perfect is you are wanting to show off your natural curves.  All and all, though the A-line dress can take on many different forms, this shape is always a classic choice; the full skirt and clean lines allow you to keep an element of the traditional and timeless.

With your personal style...As important as knowing your body type is knowing your personal style. (See our blog on the best-selling book Style Statement by Carrie McCarthy and Danielle LaPorte). Your wedding dress should be a reflection of your personality, as if it were designed for you and you alone.  First and foremost, if we haven't said it enough, keep it classic.  Simple, clean lines and flattering shapes will make sure you don't grimace when you look at your gown 20 years from now, immortalized in photographs.  Of course, this doesn't mean you should avoid risks all together.  Try on that dream gown, no matter what the sales person or your future mother-in-law has to say! This is a once in a lifetime experience.  Just in case you are feeling a bit bold, here's our take on some of the seasons latest trends.

Crumb catchers are sleevless dresses with intricate design around the neckline.

Front to back gowns allow you to show your multifaceted personality by keeping it simple and stylish in the front while letting you express more of your personality and be a bit more trendy in the back.  A sophisticated and timeless front of the dress can be accompanies by more detailed designs or cuts in the back, giving your dress visual interest and reflecting your dynamic personal style.

Nature-inspired gowns have also become a trend on the runway in 2008.  Flowers, lace or beading can bring an artistic and very feminine look to your dress.

Finally the latest trend on the runway is the use of embellishments.  Use smell accessories, intricate designs, and additional detail to incorporate your personal style and personality into your wedding dress.  A classic dress with additional subtle elements that catch your guests eyes is key.  The dress will be sophisticated and stunning and also reflect aspects of your personality.

Last but not least, keep these things in mind- the season, location, formality, and budget of your wedding.  If you're having a beach wedding in the middle of July, a heavy, elaborate, princess gown is probably the wrong choice for your big day.  Still, that fairytale dress might be the perfect choice for the large church wedding in October.  It sounds like common sense but you would be surprised how many brides get caught up in the moment and forget about the 'big picture' when it comes to picking out their wedding dress.

The best unconventional tool for brides to be
5/23/2008 7:58:28 PM

Recently we had the opportunity to meet two amazing women who are redefining style by providing a blueprint for their readers to find their ‘authentic selves.’  Style Statement, a New York Times bestseller by Carrie McCarthy and Danielle LaPorte, is a revolutionary book which seeks to truly transform its reader.  The authors explain it best in stating, “This [book] is an invitation to make more powerful choices…to create your life with intention…to communicate who you are in all that you do.”  After meeting these women and defining our own ‘style statement,’ it dawned on us that this book is the perfect tool for any bride-to-be!

Style Statement is so much more than a book about fashion.  Even if you think this book isn’t for you because you have your own sense of style or are a self-proclaimed fashionista, just give it a browse-through at your local bookstore; you’ll be amazed by what it has to offer! Style Statement takes the reader on an intimate journey, asking personal questions in order to define who you are as an individual.  Once you have determined your ‘style statement’ the book offers numerous tasks to fulfill and advice to begin living your life encompassed by your ‘style statement’, being true to your authentic self.

So how does this have anything to do with planning your wedding?  In a word: EVERYTHING.  At Flawless Events, our first and foremost concern is establishing our clients’ personal style and how they would like that unique style to be reflected on their wedding day.  Our approach to wedding décor, design, and planning is to ‘communicate who you are in all that you do.”  It always helps with the process when our clients know their ‘authentic self’ and have a strong sense of style.

One great way to benefit from Style Statement is to review it prior to going dress shopping.  While your wedding is a time to get swept up in the fairytale nature and romance of the celebration, it’s also important to stay true to who you are and your personality.  It’s important to keep your authentic self in mind when facing rows and rows of white satin and tulle.

As you can probably tell, we can’t recommend this book enough!  It’s an amazing, inspiring, and eye-opening tool that everyone should make the time to read.  Planning a wedding can be a stressful and time-consuming task; you owe it to yourself to take a few moments and look through Style Statement.  Making time for you during your planning process can help alleviate the stress and clear your head, making you capable of planning a truly flawless wedding that perfectly reflects who you are!
